Bindings - Kite Boots

Kite boots are the hardcore version of the well-known pads & straps. They provide excellent grip, control at high speeds, and better impact absorption. Kite boots are mainly used by wakestyle, freestyle, and park riders who need extra control when performing their most technical tricks. The downside is that crashes can be harder, as your board always stays attached to your feet. The board also becomes slightly heavier due to the additional boot weight. Still, the incredible pop and control are the main reasons many kiters choose boots anyway. We stock kite boots from North, Cabrinha, and Duotone. Do you have any questions about kite boots? Kite Boots at Kitemana

Want to learn more about kite boots before making a choice? In the information section below, you’ll find everything you need to know to make the right decision. We explain the differences between various types of boots, how to choose the right size, and what to pay attention to when setting up your bindings. Whether you’re buying your first pair or upgrading your old boots, with the right knowledge you’ll enjoy more comfort, control, and performance on the water. At Kitemana, we help you step by step to get the most out of your gear.

What types of kite boots are there?

There are roughly two types of kite boots: closed-toe and open-toe models. Closed-toe boots fully enclose your feet, offering more support and protection—ideal for advanced kiters who want maximum control during freestyle or wakestyle tricks. Open-toe boots have an open front and are slightly lighter and more comfortable, making them practical if you share them or prefer more toe freedom. This design also allows water to flow through, keeping your feet cooler. Additionally, boots differ in flex (stiffness), closure (laces, Velcro, or BOA system), and ankle support. The right choice depends on your riding style, preferences, and skill level. At Kitemana, we’ll gladly help you determine which type of kite boots best suits your setup. If you’re not into freestyle, wakestyle, or park riding, we recommend sticking with pads & straps.

Which boards are compatible with kite boots?

Kite boots can only be mounted on twintip boards specifically designed to handle the extra load and pressure from boots. These boards feature reinforced inserts and a stiffer construction to prevent cracking or deformation when tightly mounted. They are usually freestyle or wakestyle boards with a flatter rocker and wider stance, giving you more stability and pop. Not every board is suitable: freeride or light-wind boards are generally too flexible and may get damaged. Suitable boards include the North Flare or the Duotone TS Park.

If you’re unsure whether your board can handle boots, check the manufacturer’s specifications or contact Kitemana. We’re happy to advise you on which boards work perfectly with kite boots.

How do I choose the right size kite boots?

Choose your kite boot size based on your regular shoe size, but they should fit tighter than normal footwear. A proper fit means your feet are held securely without pressure points. Boots usually loosen up slightly after a few sessions, so they can feel snug at first. Try them on while wearing your wetsuit to ensure the fit is right for kiting. Pay attention to the closure system: some models feature laces, Velcro, or a BOA system for extra fine-tuning. Each brand fits slightly differently, so try several models to find what feels best for your feet and riding style. Not sure?
